Handling and cleaning of parts coated by Accoat

These coatings are relatively soft, tough and hard-wearing fluoroplastic coatings with good non-stick properties. As they are plastic materials, they must, however, be treated carefully as they can be scratched and cut. In fact, they are to be treated with the same care that is given to a new Teflon® frying pan. Any scratch or cut means that the coating looses some of its non-stick properties there.

Try not to damage or scratch the coating, as the metal that is exposed will decrease the non-stick properties. Never use metal tools to remove any deposits on the coating. Use a scraper of nylon or another plastic material. Use e.g. the tools that are used for Teflon® coated kitchen utensils.

Please note that one must never use metal tools to remove something that is stuck to the coating. We recommend plastic tools if it is necessary to use tools, but one of the following methods is to be preferred.

Detergent, water and brush:
In most cases, deposits can be removed with a detergent, water and a brush. Boiling with en enzyme detergent like Biotex may be useful.

"Foaming" of items bye means of lye is only to be carried out on a very limited scale and afterwards the items are to be washed off with water very quickly. Otherwise you will run the risk that the"lye" will destroy the binders and additives which are component of the coating and so in the long term destroy the properties of the coating.

High-pressure cleaner:
If the coating is intact and undamaged, a high-pressure cleaner can be used, but it should be done carefully. If the coating is damaged, a high-pressure jet may loosen it thus making matters worse.

White scotch-brite:
This very lightly abrasive cloth cleans and polishes at the same time. Use it in combination with a detergent and water to get the best effect. Rub until the surface is clean.

Purified gasoline:
Organic solvents do not damage the coatings. Cleaning with purified gasoline leaves a very clean surface almost as new. Denatured spirit is a less hazardous solvent, but is not as effective as purified gasoline.

All organic solvents are hazardous to health, and/or inflammable. Follow the instructions for use.

If the coatings Accopon HBA, Accoshield or Accotron are damaged they may be repaired. Please contact Accoat A/S, which has the technology to repair with satisfactory result, if possible.

It is important that the repair is performed using the original fluoropolymer.
